Hackathon Registration

When we hear about a Hackathon, people think of hackers or serious IT people especially in Nepal where technology is still evolving and expensive. We, Wise Bee family, want to break the wall of inexperience IT students in Nepal. We like to create an environment where IT students can grow with their fellow IT students. Hence, Hackathon Season was established that will challenge every student to solve the given problem within 24 hours as well as give real life experience of coding and reporting.

Hackathons are made up of a diverse and dynamic group of builders, creative, programmers and designers. In these group events, an individual's communication skill will significantly improve as well as networking among peers. After the event, every individual will know its coding skill level and challenge himself/herself to improve for next Hackathon season. It will also help every student to choose/experience a specific IT field that they might like to further their career.

Machine Learning, ML, has been a “talk of the town” in the Information Technology, IT world. Everybody wants to experience and learn ML or keep it as a skill in their CV. Based on these hypotheses, Wise bee Pvt Ltd have organized a Hackathon Season associated with Kathmandu Engineering College at Kathmandu Engineering College. Fifteen students with IT background were enthusiastic to compete on ML problems created by Romas Shrestha, the co-ordinator of Wise Bee. The dataset was derived from a Hotel record. Students were challenged to find a characteristic of people who are likely to cancel a hotel reservation.

The GSS team triumphs over its peers during the challenge. They have successfully manipulated data, evaluated results and presented the finding to the satisfaction of the judge, Romas Shrestha. Upon the request, the GSS team shared some interesting thoughts about the hackathon.

Genius Shrestha told us that, “The exciting part of hackathon was to compete, among his peers and find the solution”.

Sajan Oli shared the hackathon as a nerve racking experience and we quote, “How can we do better than others?”

Sujan Sapkota was optimistic about the hackathon experience. He said that, “I will encourage my juniors to participate in any further Wise Bee program in days to come”.

Overall, Wise Bee Hackathon has successfully encouraged Nepali IT students to participate in IT challenges such as hackathon and gave hands-on experience to students so that they can excel in their IT careers.
